The X–Y module has a travel range of 40 × 40 mm for moving the optical axis relative to the surgical field. The integrated assistant microscope is a permanent part of Visu 210. The assistant has separate fine focus and five-step magnification adjustment, allowing independent adjustment of image focus and scale. The assistant microscope can be placed in one of two working positions — to the left or right of the operator, at 90° to the operator’s viewing direction.

Illumination in ZEISS OPMI Visu 210 configurations
The halogen configuration uses a fiber-optic illumination path with a main lamp and a backup lamp. If the first lamp fails, the mechanism automatically moves the second lamp into the path; manual switching remains available as an emergency function.
Superlux Eye is a separate xenon illumination variant in which light reaches the microscope through a light guide. The color temperature remains constant regardless of the brightness setting, while switching to the backup xenon lamp is performed manually. A separate configuration combines Superlux Eye with additional integrated halogen illumination, which can be used with a fiber-optic slit lamp.
Visu 210 uses fixed 2° illumination to produce the red reflex and adjustable 6° illumination to illuminate the surgical field. The illuminated field can be shaped using two horizontal slits and one vertical slit. The system also includes UV/IR filters, a stop that reduces reflections from the sclera, and a retinal protection stop.
